In the Spanish (Pre-K-grade 12) Secondary Education program, you'll experience hands-on, high-impact practices that prepare you to teach with confidence and cultural insight. With mentorship from experienced educators, classroom observation, and real-time teaching practice, you'll gain the skills needed to engage diverse learners and inspire a lifelong love for the Spanish language.

By the completion of the program, students should be able to:  

• Students demonstrate advanced proficiency in Spanish across interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication. Graduates will achieve at least  in speaking and writing, and Advanced Mid or higher in reading and listening. They will communicate clearly and effectively in Spanish through sustained conversations, presentations, and analytical writing in academic and professional contexts. 
• Students analyze and interpret literary, cultural, and historical texts in every support from the Spanish-speaking world using appropriate critical and theoretical frameworks. Graduates will evaluate how language, culture, and power shape cultural production across diverse regions and historical periods. They will synthesize evidence from multiple sources to construct well-supported arguments in Spanish and English, demonstrating strong critical thinking and research skills. 
• Students apply, analyze and integrate cultural perspectives, practices, and products from the Spanish-speaking world into classroom instruction. Graduates will analyze cultural perspectives, practices, and products in ways that demonstrate awareness of linguistic diversity, including U.S. Spanish and heritage language communities.
